Symptoms of Haemorrhoids and PilesThere are several common symptoms of haemorrhoids (piles). One is anal itching, another is discomfort on passing stools which may include some blood spotting, and another is an incomplete feeling after opening the bowels.Additionally, you may experience a heavy, dragging sensation around the anal area. Often you can feel piles when wiping after using the lavatory, particularly if your piles are prolapsed (bulging outside the anus). If you think you may have piles you should visit your GP, who will be able to advise you on the best treatment. If your piles are persistent there are a number of treatment options for haemorrhoids that you can discuss with your GP or consultant. For more information about haemorrhoids, or for a copy of our patient leaflet, ‘Are you sitting comfortably?’, please call our patient helpline on 0800 028 2231.
