Questions to Ask Your General Practitioner

Upon first diagnosis...

What grade of piles do I have (Grade 1-4)?
What is the most likely cause of my condition?
What treatment options are available to me?
What lifestyle changes should I make, e.g., diet or exercise?
What should I do if the condition doesn't improve?

If your piles get worse...

What other treatments are available?
Is surgery an option for me?
What treatments are most likely to offer me a long-term solution?
Can I choose which hospital and surgeon I am referred to

PLEASE NOTE:

If after reviewing the information available on allaboutpph.co.uk you decide that you would prefer the PPH procedure to another surgical procedure, your GP will be able to refer you to your local fully trained PPH surgeon. For details of these surgeons phone our helpline on 0800 028 2231.

Tips for Your Visit

Bring a Friend

Your friend or loved one can ask questions from a different perspective and remind you of anything you've forgotten. It also helps to have their emotional support.

Report Your Medical History

Be sure to bring a record of your medical history with you when you see your doctor. This includes any past procedures or illnesses you've had and health conditions that run in your family.

Write Down the Information

Any information your doctor provides may be important in the future. Make sure to take notes on what is said, and follow up on those notes in future discussions.

To help get an accurate diagnosis of your condition, you should speak directly to your GP. These questions are not a substitute for information provided to you by them.
